Even as the Centre today lauded efforts of the J&K Government in containing Covid spread, the toughest task at hand is to control mortality rate in the Valley, especially in Srinagar district.

Of the 20 districts in UT, Srinagar alone contributes nearly 32 per cent of the total mortalities in J&K. Out of total 678 deaths, 215 have been reported in Srinagar district.

Furthermore, Srinagar alone contributes over 24 per cent of the total positive cases in J&K. Out of total 35,831 positive cases, 8,924 cases are in Srinagar.

The district today again recorded 194 positive cases, highest in all 20 districts of J&K. Out of total 8,924 cases in Srinagar, only 633 have travel history. In the past 24 hours, seven Covid deaths were reported from all districts of which two were reported from Srinagar.

Sources said the higher-ups in the Health Department were focusing on Srinagar as experts from the Centre had already suggested some measures to control mortalities in J&K, especially in Kashmir Valley.

Sources said like Jammu district, authorities would soon start Corona antigen random testing in Srinagar to check the spread of the virus.

During their recent visit to Srinagar to take stock of preparedness of J&K in combating the global pandemic, experts from Centre had suggested that home isolation and providing pulse oximeters would be a game changer in controlling the mortalities in the Valley.

Besides suggesting a few changes in treatment and home isolation protocol, they recommended declaration of micro-level containment or red zones for better implications.
