The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only road link to the Kashmir valley with rest of the country, was reopened for traffic on Saturday after remaining closed for two days due to multiple landslides in Ramban district.
“The highway was cleared for traffic around 10 am and nearly 500 stranded vehicles were cleared on priority. Thereafter, we have allowed the movement of vehicles from Srinagar to Jammu,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), National Highway, Ajay Anand told The Tribune.
The highway was blocked at over half-a-dozen vulnerable spots between Ramban and Banihal due to landslides and falling stones triggered by heavy rains over the past two days. The authorities had been facing a major challenge in carrying out clearance operation due to continuous falling stones at Panthiyal, Monkey Morh, Mehar, Chanderkote, Moum Passi, Marog, Battery Cheshma and Trishul Morh. — TNS
