Stand up for targeted youth: Mirwaiz to MLAs

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday said elected representatives have to ensure that basic rights of people are upheld.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz said, “Repeated arrests of Kashmiris — many of whom have already completed their sentences — serve no justice.”

Stating that “youth are being targeted”, Mirwaiz said families of the arrested have reached him “in distress.” “Such harassment deepens the wounds and fuels mistrust and anger among the people,” he said.

He also urged the authorities to end the “punitive approach.” “Also, the elected representatives of the people cannot be bystanders to this. They need to fulfil their responsibility and ensure that basic rights of people are upheld,” Mirwaiz said.
