Strong winds, rain cause widespread damage, power outage in Jammu
While the power infrastructure was severely damaged in entire Jammu region due to high velocity winds, a cloudburst hit Reasi late on Wednesday evening in which a house and two shops were damaged.
High velocity winds hit Jammu uprooting many trees and electricity poles in all districts of the region on Wednesday. The Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) continued to restore the power in many areas on Thursday.
An under construction bridge collapsed in Rajouri district due to winds. Reports suggested that the speed of the gusty winds was over 114 km/hour. Some areas witnessed hailstorm that also damaged the crops.
Gandhinagar area in Jammu city came to a standstill as multiple trees fell on the road. These were cleared by the authorities after which traffic was restored. A boundary wall of the civil secretariat in the city also fell while a mobile tower near Bahu Fort area collapsed notwithstanding the winds. Most of the districts, including Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban suffered damage to the power infrastructure causing outage. A JPDCL official informed that all field staffers were on the job for early restoration of power supply.
