Pertinently, the school education directorate has recently introduced home classes to ensure that there will be no academic loss of students during the ongoing lockdown of schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

To reach out to students home assignments are being given to the students by DSEJ with the help of all means of technology like video conferencing, telecast through cable network, Doordarshan etc.

Specific instructions, as well as indicative home assignments, are also being uploaded regularly on the departmental website on Student Corner under the name DSEJ’s Home Assignments.

“We welcome the decision of the government to promote the students to next classes and conduct of home classes too but there are no books available to read. With the slow speed of 2G internet, it is very difficult to upload the assignments being given on a daily basis”, a student told, Ramesh Kumar.

“Unless we have a thorough look at the textbooks it is impossible to take any home assignment. The e-textbooks on which the assignments are provided are not being uploaded most of the time. We appeal the government to allow stationery shops to open so that students can buy books of their respective class they are promoted”, another student, Amit Singh said.

When contacted, Anuradha Gupta, Director, School Education, Jammu told The Tribune: “Textbook is available in winter zone. In the summer zone, those who have access to online classes can get e-books available on the website of JKBOSE. Electronic Textbooks of JKBOSE are available on JKBOSE official website”.
