Srinagar, June 15
The Press Council of India has sought a response from the Jammu and Kashmir Government over the summoning of journalists by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Taking cognisance of the complaint by Kashmir Press Club, the PCI has sought comments from the J&K Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police over the issue.
The PCI said its chairman had called for comments “which may be filed within two weeks from the date of receipt of this letter to enable the council to determine the further course of action in the matter.”
The council, in its notice on June 11, had said it had taken note of the complaint by Kashmir Press Club, which had on May 21 highlighted the summons to journalists and their questioning by the police for their stories.
