The SMGS hospital in Jammu has initiated an inquiry after allegations were levelled by two set of parents that their daughters born in 2022 were exchanged with each other.

The parents conducted a DNA test recently after which it was confirmed that their children were exchanged after which the matter was reported to the police and hospital authorities. While the parents of one female belong to Doda district of J&K, the other belong to Chhattisgarh. Both girls were born in September 2022 at SMGS.

In its preliminary investigation, the hospital administration found that as per record two female babies were delivered by two different mothers on September 8, 2022, one at 3.05 am and other at 3.06 am. Footprints of both the babies were printed separately on delivery register.

“So far, no negligence on the part of staff has been established. The case has also been brought to the notice of the police authorities and they are also investigating. All the cooperation and support shall be provided to the police authorities in the matter and in case any involvement of any staff member is found, strict disciplinary action will be taken,” the statement read.
