Tanker driver dies in Udhampur accident

Jammu: Driver of an oil tanker died in an accident in Udhampur when the vehicle driven by him collided with a hillside on Saturday. The tanker was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar and met with the accident near Morh Passi on the Jammu-Srinagar National highway in Udhampur after driver apparently lost the control on the vehicle. Soon after the accident, other drivers and police shifted the severely injured tanker driver to Government Medical College and Hospital, Udhampur, where doctors declared him brought dead. The driver has been identified as Mandeep Singh (50). Police authorities are investigating the cause of accident. OC

Man killed after being hit by train in Samba

Jammu: A 40-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train in Samba district, an official said on Saturday. Efforts are on to identify the deceased, who was run over by the Shalimar Express in Vijaypur area late Friday night, an official of the government railway police said. He said that the body of the deceased was found on the railway track and later shifted to the district hospital in Samba for post-mortem and identification. PTI

Teenager dies of asphyxiation in Ramban

Banihal/Jammu: A teenager died and four others fell unconscious due to suspected asphyxiation in Ramban district on Saturday, officials said. The incident took place during a marriage function at Deeda village in sub-divisional Gool, the officials said. Five persons were found unconscious this morning inside a room where a generator was placed to provide electricity to the house, they said. The officials said that they were rushed to the sub-district hospital in Gool where Mohammad Tariq (18) was declared dead, adding four other persons are undergoing treatment. PTI

Wetland reserves in Kashmir declared out of bounds

Jammu: In the backdrop of migratory season, the department of Wildlife Protection has declared Wetland Reserves in the Kashmir Division out of bounds for general public. Violators have been warned of strict action. In a public notice issued by Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division, Kashmir, it has been stated that in exercise of powers conferred in terms of the Wildlife Protection Act, the protected areas and adjoining areas falling under the jurisdiction of Wetlands Division including Hokersar WLR, Hygam WLR, Shallabugh WLR, Mirgund WLR, Chattlum WLR, Fashkoori WLR, Manibugh WLR and Kranchoo WLR are declared out of bound for the general masses without valid permission in view of migratory season.
