A major tragedy was thwarted as the security forces busted a hideout of terrorists in the forest area of Poonch and recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) packed in tiffin boxes along with other equipment.

After getting specific information about the presence of a hideout, a joint team of the Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police, raided the location at Suranthal in the Marhote area of Surankote late on Sunday evening and recovered the explosives.

The security forces were able to seize five ready-to-use IEDs --weighing between 0.5 kg to 5 kg -- that would have been enough for a major tragedy, if used by ultras. All the IEDs were destroyed in a controlled explosion under the supervision of the bomb disposal squad.

While two IEDs were found planted inside steel buckets, three others were packed in tiffin boxes, the officials said.

Two wireless sets, five packets containing urea, one five litre gas cylinder, one binocular, three woolen caps, three blankets and some trousers and utensils were also recovered from the terror hideout.

Massive search operations are underway in different district of the Jammu region to eliminate terrorists, who have infiltrated from Pakistan and are now hiding in deep jungles of the region.
