Terrorist killed in gunfight with security forces in Handwara

The security forces had launched a cordon and a search operation in Krumhoora village in Zachaldara following information about the presence of terrorists in the area, the officials said.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire towards the security forces' positions. One terrorist was killed in retaliatory firing and some arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot, they said.

Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched in the area. “Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire,” the Army said.

According to Army, troops effectively retaliated, which resulted killing of one militant, alongwith recovery of one AK rifle. “Operation is in progress,” the Army said.

This is the first gun battle in nearly two month in Kashmir.
