The Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked three drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS Act) on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Owais Ahmad Bhat, Asif Ahmad Khan and Aqib Islam Wani, all residents of Srinagar.

The police said they booked the accused under the PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, on the basis of dossiers prepared by the Srinagar police against them.

The drug peddlers have been lodged at rhw Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and district jails of Udhampur and Bhaderwah, the Srinagar Police said.

The police added that the accused were involved in peddling narcotics on an alarming scale in the area for the past couple

of years.

“Despite several cases registered under the NDPS Act against them, they did not mend their ways. After getting released on bail, they brazenly sold drugs to the youngsters in the area,” the police said.

The Srinagar police have set into motion the process to attach their properties purchased from drug money under the PIT-NDPS Act.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police affirm its steadfast commitment of eliminating drug peddling in the region with the full might of law. We also caution those engaged in this unlawful activity that the long arm of law will catch them sooner than anticipated and every offender will face justice,” the Srinagar police said.
