Toll reaches 195; 346 new cases

With eight fresh deaths, the Covid toll in J&K has reached 195. A total of 346 new positive cases were reported in the past 24 hours. As many as 128 patients have been cured and recovered from different hospitals.

The eight deaths on Tuesday included a 47-year-old agriculture officer from the Jammu’s Talab Tillo area who died at Government Medical College, Jammu. He tested positive for the virus on Sunday and was put on a ventilator on Monday. He died early this morning.

After the deceased was tested positive, the Directorate of Agriculture, the Director of Animal Husbandry and other offices situated in the Gole Pulley Talab Tillo areas have been sealed. Four colleagues of the deceased have already tested positive while samples of over 200 employees were collected.

A sub-inspector posted at the Arnia police station tested positive following which the police station building was immediately contained and all police personnel were quarantined there. Earlier, the Janipur police station on the outskirts of Jammu was also sealed after one sub-inspector tested positive.

According to an official bulletin issued on Tuesday evening, 346 new cases tested positive, 56 from the Jammu division and 290 from the Kashmir division, thus taking the total number of positive cases in J&K to 11,173.

Despite fresh restrictions imposed, Srinagar district on Tuesday recorded all-time single-day high with 127 positive cases. For the past one week, Srinagar district has been recording highest number of positive cases across the UT.
