Srinagar, December 18
As traders in the Kashmir valley have already been hit hard due to suspension of Internet services, they have now sought an extension in the last date for filing of Goods and Service Tax (GST) returns.
“We were unable to file GST returns due to lack of Internet service. Now that the facility has been set up at the Commercial and Sales Tax Department for traders for filing of GST returns, we appeal to the government to extend the date for filing of returns. It will not be possible for all the traders of the Kashmir valley to file returns by December 20,” said Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) vice-chairman Aijaz Shahdhar.
He said the government should also lift the ban on Internet services in the Valley that came into effect on August 5 in the wake of abrogation of Article 370. “The suspension of Internet services has added to the losses suffered by the business community in Kashmir. Unfortunately, despite repeated appeals from our side, the government is yet to pass directions for the restoration of Internet services. It is not possible for the businesses to function smoothly without Internet nowadays,” said Shahdhar.
