Training programme on organic farming

Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu, on Saturday organised a one-day training programme on organic farming in Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen at Kissan Bhawan, Talab Tillo, Jammu. The training, part of the Alternate Agriculture System for Sustainability project under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) 2024-25, aims to educate extension officers, field functionaries, and farmer trainers on the latest advancements and techniques in organic farming.
The Director underscored the importance of organic farming in enhancing the quality of food for consumer health and boosting farmers’ income. Reen highlighted the significance of organic farming in enhancing the nation’s food quality and urged the participants to focus on results-oriented approaches in their work.
He also detailed the registration of 215 organic clusters on the PGS-India portal. “These clusters will undergo a three-year certification process, culminating in PGS certification and the organic logo for market sale. During this period, farmers will receive organic inputs and training from the Department of Agriculture, which will also support marketing and branding efforts to boost farmer incomes,” the spokesperson said. — OC
