Remembering Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) recipient Lt-Col Chhewang Rinchen on his 23rd death anniversary, his family members, relatives and friends gathered at his memorial park to pay tributes to the martyr today. They offered traditional scarf “khataks” and flowers at his memorial stupa.
Due to corona virus pandemic his 23rd death anniversary observed with few gathering which used to be organised by Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre (LSRC) at the large scale.
Lt-Col Chhewang Rinchen, MVC Bar, SM, hailed from Sumoor village in Nubra. While still in his teens he raised volunteers for Nubra Guard, which successfully pushed back the tribal invaders from Pakistan in 1948. For this remarkable feat he was awarded the MVC. — OC
