The Jammu unit of the Crime Branch has registered a case against two fraudsters for duping a woman of her Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of arranging MBBS seat for her daughter outside J&K.
The accused have been identified as Vishal Kumar of Durgasthan, near Kali Mandir, Katihar, Bihar, presently residing in Noida, and Nissar KP of Puthiyapurayil 9, Koodali Panchayath, Kerala, presently residing at Kannur, Kerala.
According to an official spokesperson, Dr Mehjabeen Shehri, wife of Dr Danish Ayub, a resident of Gandhi Nagar Jammu, presently Medical Officer, MLA Hostel, Jammu, lodged a written complaint alleging that the accused assured her of an MBBS seat for her daughter in Dehradun through a website.
On their assurance, the complainant transferred an advance amount of Rs 2 lakh into their account and she was asked to deposit the remaining amount after the MBBS seat was allotted to her daughter.
The Crime Branch, Jammu, initiated a inquiry and it was prima facie established that the accused have opened various bank accounts and procured various mobile SIM cards on forged documents only for the purpose of cheating the complainant and other gullible people.
