Two militants killed in Anantnag encounter

The security forces have eliminated two Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior official of the Union Territory (UT) police said.

The JeM terrorists were killed during an encounter at in Shalgul forests in Srigufwara of Anantnag district. A search operation continued till late evening. An official said the forces got information about the presence of militants following which the search operation was launched. It turned into an encounter when militants opened fire on the cops.

Earlier in the day, the J&K Police claimed that four unidentified terrorists had been killed in the ongoing encounter, but later rectified the number to two.

On February 19, two policemen were killed in a terrorist attack in Srinagar’s Baghat area of Barzulla. In another encounter on the same day, three terror associates affiliated to Hizbul Mujahideen were also killed in the Budgam area of the Shopian district.

One police personnel lost his life and another was injured in a separate encounter that broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Budgam on February 19.
