To review and reinforce measures to combat drug abuse in Udhampur district, Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, chaired a District-Level Committee meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure; Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Gurvinderjeet Singh; Assistant Commissioner Development, Ranjeet Singh Kotwal and other senior officials.

A comprehensive discussion was held on different aspects of drug prevention, including identification and rehabilitation of drug addicts, tracking and apprehending individuals involved in drug trafficking, eliminating illegal cannabis cultivation, identifying drug abuse hotspots, strengthening Nasha Mukt Panchayat initiatives, and implementing robust rehabilitation measures for addicts.

The DC instructed concerned officers to compile detailed action reports on previous directives and emphasised the mandatory installation of 100% CCTV cameras in all medical shops to curb the misuse of prescription drugs. She further directed all departments to intensify counselling services and IEC activities to spread awareness about drug abuse. The principals of colleges were directed to organise regular awareness programmes in their institutions.

The CMO was instructed to conduct sensitisation and counseling sessions for staff at all healthcare institutions and to extend IEC campaigns to the village level.
