Vendor chargesheeted for facilitating mobile SIM to a terrorist
The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing has filed a chargesheet against a terrorist associate, Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh. The chargesheet was filed before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kulgam, in a case registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar.
Sheikh, an Airtel franchise vendor from Chawalgam Kulgam, is accused of facilitating SIM cards for active terrorists, enabling their communication and coordination of terrorist acts.
The CIK initiated an investigation after receiving information about terrorists, members of proscribed organizations, and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) fraudulently obtaining SIM cards, often with the complicity of franchise or Point of Sale (POS) vendors.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Sheikh, who operates a shop called “Micro World,” manipulated and forged a genuine electoral Identity Card to issue a SIM card to a non-existent person.
He also entered fictitious and incomplete details on the Customer Application Form (CAF) to provide the SIM card to a terrorist. The police confirmed that the subscriber listed on the CAF did not exist, and the SIM card was indeed given to a terrorist.
The police have urged the public, especially the youth of Kashmir Valley, to adhere to advisories and take precautions to prevent the misuse of their documents for obtaining SIM cards fraudulently. They also advised against sharing SIM cards with anyone, regardless of how close the person may be.
