A senior police official of Udhampur said security had been tightened along the NH in the district to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. Northern Command of the Army is also located in Udhampur district.
The police official said apart from regular checkpoints, special check posts have been set up in coordination with security forces at various locations. The CRPF, CISF and other paramilitary forces are guarding sensitive locations along the highway.
