Weatherman issues alert for heavy rain, flashfloods in parts of J&K

The Meteorological Department of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in parts of the UT.

In an advisory issued by the MeT centre at Srinagar, it was stated, “From July 16-17, it will be generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places with intense showers at few places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places of J&K”.

It further read, “From July 18-20 there will be a spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower at scattered to fairly widespread places”. The advisory stated that from July 21-23 it will be generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places with intense showers at few places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places of J&K.

The MeT while issuing a warning stated, “Flash floods at few vulnerable places with landslide/mudslide and shooting stones”.

It further read that there will be rise in water level in rivers/streams/local nullahs and water logging in few low-lying areas. Many parts of J&K have received rainfall during the past two days bringing much needed relief from humid weather conditions.

Meanwhile, in an advisory issued by MeT department of Ladakh, it was stated that general public, tourists and all concerned are advised to remain cautious, alert and stay away from vulnerable areas during heavy rains.
