Continuing its crackdown on drug peddlers, the J&K Police on Sunday arrested five drug peddlers, including a woman, from Kashmir.
A young woman, name withheld, was arrested from the Bonigam-Kangan area in Ganderbal district.
“The police arrested a woman peddler and recovered contraband substance and cash from her,” a police spokesperson said.
Acting on specific information, the police raided a shop run by a woman in the Bonibagh area. “Officers recovered 400 gm of charas and Rs4,22,750 believed to be the proceeds of a narcotic crime,” the spokesperson added.
The accused woman has been arrested and a case has been registered in Kangan police station. She has been shifted to the Women Police Cell, Ganderbal, where she remains in custody.
Initial probe reveals that the woman was peddling contraband drugs to the youth of the area under the garb of running a local shop.
Meanwhile, in two separate raids, the police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 137 kg of poppy straw from their possession.
Officers at a check-point in the jurisdiction of Qazigund police station intercepted an oil tanker with two persons on board. On checking, the police recovered 125 kg of poppy straw concealed in 10 bags from inside the oil tanker. The accused have been arrested. A case has been registered at Qazigund police station
Similarly, in another action against drug dealings, the police at Jawahar Tunnel intercepted a Maruti vehicle with two persons on board. On checking, the police recovered 12 kg of poppy straw from the vehicle. Both the persons have been arrested. A case has been registered at Qazigund police station.
