Jammu, February 17

Bimla Luthra, National Conference (NC) women wing vice-president, today underscored the role of the party in socio-political empowerment and economic emancipation of women over decades.

Addressing party workers at Chohala village, she recalled the initiatives taken by the NC for women reservation in grassroots-level democratic institutions and 50 per cent seats in medical colleges, saying that these paved way for carving out a big role for them in different spheres. "Due to the focus on female literacy, time has come when girls are excelling in academics in a big way," she said.

“Given the opportunity, the J&K women have proven to be second to none. They are proving their worth by giving their best in the chosen fields,” Luthra said. She exhorted women to play their role in shaping the destiny of Jammu and Kashmir and steer it to peace, progress and development.—
