Komal Beetan, a student from Beetan village in the Bet area of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, has got 100 per cent scholarship to pursue her PhD in Mississippi Medical University, USA.

It is noteworthy that she’s India’s only aspirant selected for the scholarship.

Komal’s father Balu Ram is an Indian Oil Corporation employee and her mother Gurbaksh Kaur had died 14 years ago. Komal had received her primary education from Riyat Model School in Beetan village. She did her Class XII from St Soldier’s School, Naya Nangal and BSMS and JRF from IISER-Mohali.

Himachal Pradesh’s LoP Mukesh Agrihotri, Numberdar Baij Nath Choudhary, Punjab Congress OBC Cell vice-chairman Rakesh Kumar, All-India Jat Mahasabha’s state general secretary Ajaib Singh Boparai, Baldev Krishan and others congratulated Komal and her family for the achievement. — OC

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
