1,003 CCTV cameras to enhance security 24x7 in Jalandhar

City residents are likely to feel a bit safe as the Commissionerate Police claims to have set up 1,003 cameras across 183 junctions in the city for 24x7 monitoring.
The cameras have enabled an advanced surveillance to enable swift incident response and improved traffic management. Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the police were enhancing their operations by adopting the latest advancements in the CCTV technology aimed at improving overall security and efficiency.
He said an extensive network of 1,003 CCTV cameras, including 978 fixed cameras, 15 PTZ cameras and 10 face recognition cameras had been strategically installed for a continuous surveillance coverage. The surveillance would help improve traffic flow and trace incidents using cutting-edge technology.
Additionally, five emergency call boxes had been installed to facilitate emergency calls from citizens.
As many as 25 public address systems and 25 video image displays had also been installed, allowing direct communication through CCTV cameras at vital points. He said using the technology, the police were also launching the e-challan facility, which would enable automated traffic violation checks.
The cameras so far were largely being used for VVIP/VIP duties and managing public agitations.
Search ops ahead of I-Day
The police on Friday conducted a search operation to step up security measures ahead of Independence Day.
Police teams have been continuously checking places with more footfall, including railway station and crowded bazaars, to ensure the enhanced security. All suspicious activities are also being monitored through patrolling which has been intensified.
The search operation was conducted in coordination with local intelligence to enhance security measures.
