119 dengue cases in Jalandhar

On the orders of Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh and under the guidelines of Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Garg, the Health Department took action to prevent dengue in various areas of the district on Friday under the — “Every Friday - Dengue Te War” — campaign.

In Jalandhar so far, 119 cases of Dengue have been reported this year, of which 42 were reported this month alone. Dengue surveys have been carried out in 15,11,989 homes this year (urban 58,9,078 and rural 92,2,911). Larvae was found in 1,637 homes (urban 1238 and rural 399) this year. All dengue larvae found by the health teams were destroyed.

A Health Department team, led by District Epidemiologist Dr Aditya Paul, checked possible dengue larvae sites in Civil Hospital Staff Colony and the Surajganj area of Jalandhar city and also made people aware about prevention of the vector-borne disease by going door to door.

Dr Pal, while sharing information about dengue prevention drive with the people, said, “The most important weapon for prevention of dengue is maintaining cleanliness and awareness.” Asking residents to be vigilant, he said water should not be allowed to accumulate in coolers, flower pots, broken pots and tires around and in houses.
