14 government schools to remain closed, others to reopen tomorrow

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain announced that 14 government schools in the district, affected by recent heavy rains and floods, will remain closed until further orders. These include 5 middle and 9 primary schools. She clarified that all other government schools will reopen from September 10.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that the safety of students and teachers remains the administration’s top priority. The affected schools will reopen only when it is confirmed that the buildings, road connectivity and other facilities are completely safe. She added that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and working in collaboration with the education department to address the challenges.

According to District Education Officer Lalita Arora, out of 491 upper primary schools in the district, 5 will remain closed, while 486 will reopen on Tuesday, September 10. The schools that will remain closed include Government Senior Secondary School Gondpur, Government Middle School Hakumatpur, Government Middle School Bhatolian, Government Middle School Haled Janardan and Government High School Phuglana.

Similarly, out of 1,220 primary schools, 9 will remain closed, while 1,211 will open from September 10. The primary schools that will remain closed include Sahib Da Pind, Ludhiani, Denowal Kalan, Mona Khurd, Rupowal, Jahidpur Jattan, Haled Janardan, Bains Awan, and Jangliana.

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain urged parents to refrain from sending their children to the affected schools and to adhere to the instructions provided by the administration. She assured that cleaning and repair work at the affected schools is being prioritised to minimise disruptions to students’ education.
