Roshni, an NGO, honoured 15 differently abled persons from rural areas for joining the mainstream with hard work and determination.
Father KJ Thomas, who runs the NGO, shared their stories. Mansreena, the first to be honoured, did not attend a regular school except a madrasa for her basic education. She continued her further education with the NGO and did a course in tailoring from Don Bosco Institute, Patiala. She got married to Javed in March 2010 and is now blessed with two children. Mansreena does the job of a tailor while Javed designs men garments.
Arjoo, another differently person, got selected in the government quota seat for MBBS and is in the second year. Her education is being sponsored by a Chandigarh-based philanthropist. “Her two sisters, Anu and Anjali, are pursuing BTech (computer science) and are looking for a well wisher for help, said Father Thomas.
Sahista, Narsingh, Ram Kumar, Rakesh, Johny, Abdul Sitar, Emran and Purushotam are among other persons who have been empowered with various skills. — TNS
