16 booked for beef seizure

Acting swiftly after seizure of 6.5 quintal of beef from a cold store behind a dhabha in village Chachoki near Phagwara on last night, the police have registered a case under Sections 428, 295A of the IPC against 16 persons, including owner of Jyoti Dhaba.

SSP Gaurav Toora said here today that the cows were being slauthered on the Hoshiarpur road "hadda rori" and was being packed in this cold store.

Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the police have launched a massive hunt to search the accused.

Police officials confirmed that five individuals were taken into custody for questioning. “A veterinary team has been constituted to collect and examine meat samples to determine its nature,” said DSP Bharat Bhushan. He further stated that legal action will be taken based on the test results. It was learnt that beef was being sent to Kashmir since long.
