Jalandhar: In an ongoing drive against anti-social elements, a police party, headed by Harneel Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division, Phillaur, nabbed two members of a gang and seized a pistol and two cartridges from their possession. They were wanted in an attempt to murder case registered last year at the Phillaur police station. The accused have been indentified as Vihay Masih and Sandeep alias Kali, residents of Khad Mohalla, Phillaur. SSP Swapan Sharma said a case of attempt to murder under Sections 307, 160, 324, 148 and 149 of the IPC had been registered on April 23, 2021. During the interrogation, accused Vijay Kumar said Sandeep Kali was also involved in the gang with him. The weapon received by the police is a US Model 1*02 pistol along with two cartridges. Both the arrested accused were wanted in different cases. TNS
Officials collect milk samples
Jalandhar: A team of Health Department led by Hoshiarpur District Health Officer Dr Lakhvir Singh on Friday conducted surprise check at different locations adjoining city areas and collected 12 samples of food products. The team took samples of milk products from Patwari Dhaba, Bhupinder Dairy Bootan Mandi, Ghai Biscuits and Novelty Trading Lambra. The DHO said samples of kheer, lassi and paneer were taken from patwari dhaba and samples of butter, paneer, desi ghee and curd collected at Bhupinder Dairy. Similarly, two samples of pastries were taken from Ghai Biscuits and canola oil, namkeen and desi ghee from Novelty Trading, Lambra. The samples are being dispatched to food laboratory, Kharar, for further checking and the department will act accordingly after receiving the reports of the same. He also appealed the shopkeepers to ensure sale of pure, quality and nutritious food products in larger public interest. He asked the manufacturers and sellers to ensure strict compliance of Food Safety and Standards Act besides having requisite license issued from competent authority. TNS
Man kills wife’s lover, arrested
Hoshiarpur: A migrant worker killed his wife’s paramour by hitting him on the head with a wooden stick in Maili village. The complainant, Mercury Hamevarg, a native of Jharkhand, told the police that she married to Janje Baski of Jharkhand and has three sons and two daughters. She alleged that her husband used to beat her so she started to live separately. For the past two years, she had been living with Anoop Das, a resident of Jharkhand, and has given birth to a son too. She told the police that Anoop Das was returning to the village after harvesting wheat from the fields at around 1.30 pm. Suddenly, her husband came there and attacked Das, killing him on the spot. Manna Singh, police station in-charge of Chabbewal police station said the accused Janje Baski has been nabbed and the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem.
