In a crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, have arrested two persons and seized 15 cases of illicit liquor.
The operation, carried out by teams from Police Station, Bhargo Camp, and Division Number 5, is part of the police department’s intensified efforts to curb illegal liquor sale in the city.
According to the Commissioner of Police, under the supervision of the ACP-West, a police team arrested Raj Kumar, alias Raju, a resident of Guru Sant Mandir Street, Basti Danishmanda. He was found in possession of eight cases of illegal liquor branded as "Punjab King Desi Theka." An FIR has been registered under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at Bhargo Camp.
Simultaneously, another team arrested another accused Aakash, a resident of Basti Shekh. He was caught with seven cases of illicit liquor labelled "First Choice." An FIR under the same sections of the Excise Act has been lodged at Division Number 5.
Both accused were previously booked in different cases at Bhargo Camp, Basti Bawa Khel and Police Division Number 5.
Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur emphasised that the arrests were part of a broader campaign to dismantle illegal liquor network in Jalandhar. "The police are intensifying their intelligence efforts to track down other persons involved in the trade", she added.
