Phagwara: Two gangsters, identified as Mukesh Kumar, alias Khanna, of Virk village in Kapurthala, and Parminder Singh, alias Dulla, of Narur village, who were nabbed at a checkpoint near Nasirabad village in Phagwara under the Arms Act were produced in the Court of Judicial Magistrate on Thursday, who sent them to 14 days of judicial custody. The CIA staff, led by Inspector Harneek Singh, on Tuesday arrested these gangsters and seized three country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and a motorcycle from them. SP (Detective) Manpreet Dhillon and Phagwara SP Manwinder Singh told mediapersons and claimed that several other disclosures were expected in this regard soon. Dhillon said:“One of their accomplice, identified as Michel,a resident of Phagwara, is still at large and can be nabbed soon.” OC
LIP workers meet Phagwara SDM
Phagwara: A deputation of the Lok Insaf Party (LIP) workers, led by Jarnail Nangal, met SDM Gurwinder Singh Johal here on Thursday and apprised him of the dilapidated condition of roads in the city. The members of the deputation also urged the SDM to ask the traffic police to ensure hassle-free traffic on service roads due to the ongoing construction work of a flyover in Phagwara on the National High Ways. Phagwara: The police arrested a man and seized 10 boxes of illicit liquor from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Onkar Nagar here. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the suspect. OC
Man held with 6 bottles of whisky
Nakodar: The police arrested a man and seized six bottles of whisky from his possession on Wednesday. The suspect was arrested on the charge of smuggling liquor. Investigating Officer Lakhwindar Singh said the suspect had been identified as Vishal, a resident of Mohalla Baghiarrpura, Nakodar. He said a case had been registered. OC

Nakodar: The Shahkot police arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), on Wednesday. The suspect was at large for the past 11 years. Investigating officer (IO), Sanjivan Singh, said: The suspect has been identified as Amrik Singh, a resident of Barriyal village, in Kapurthala. He was wanted in a case of decoity, added the IO.” OC
Thieves target mobile shop
Phagwara: A mobile shop was reportedly burgled on the Phagwara-Palahai road here on Wednesday. The thieves entered the shop after breaking the locks of the shutters and decamped with valuables, including a laptop and accessories of mobile phones, and Rs2,500. The police have registered a case.OC
