In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kapurthala police arrested two individuals and recovered a total of 325 grams of heroin in separate incidents during routine patrols across the district last night.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora said that the first incident occurred on the Subhanpur–Hamira road, where a police team on patrol noticed a man walking suspiciously behind them. When intercepted and questioned, the individual identified himself as Gurcharan Singh alias Gora, a resident of Gurdaspur district.
A personal search led to the recovery of 230 grams of heroin from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody, and a case was registered against him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the supply network and explore any possible links to larger drug syndicates.
Shortly afterward, in a separate operation near Kapurthala, another youth was arrested after being found with 95 grams of heroin. The incident took place when a patrol team from the CIA Staff, Kapurthala, noticed a young man walking alone near a village. Upon spotting the police, the suspect allegedly pulled out a small wax-coated packet from his pocket and threw it on the road in an attempt to evade detection.
Police personnel swiftly detained the individual and recovered the packet, which was later confirmed to contain heroin. He was also booked under the NDPS Act. Authorities are now probing the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
