Two people were killed when driver of a truck loaded with Khair wood lost control over the vehicle after its tyre burst and collided with a college bus near Bagwai village on the Garhshankar-Chandigarh road.

Nine nursing students travelling in the college bus were seriously injured in the accident. The impact of the collision was so severe that both the vehicles were completely damaged in the accident. A motorcycle that was also involved in the accident was badly damaged.

The truck bearing registration number HP-38 B 6400 loaded with Khair wood from Himachal Pradesh was plying on the Garhshankar- Chandigarh road around 5 pm when suddenly its rear tyre burst. The driver lost control over the truck and it collided with a bus of Guru Seva College, Panam, coming from the front. After the collision, the bus rammed into a tree on the opposite side of the road.

Bus driver Gagandeep Singh died in the accident. A motorcyclist, who was passing by, also died after his bike got involved in the collision. The motorcyclist was identified as Goldy, a resident of Jalwaha, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.

Thirteen first year nursing students travelling in the bus were also injured. Out of the injured students, seven were identified as Prabhjot Kaur, a resident of Dadiyal, Nazia, a resident of Salempur, Savita, a resident of Satnaur, Arshpreet Kaur, a resident of Jallowal, Aarti, a resident of Padrana, Gurpreet Kaur, a resident of Kukda, and Simran Kaur, a resident of Kahma, SBS Nagar district. They were admitted to the Garhshankar Civil Hospital for treatment. Besides, four out of six students, who were admitted to a private hospital in Garhshankar, were sent home after treatment for minor injuries.

Two students Maskeen and Jasmine were referred to a Nawanshahr hospital as their condition was critical.
