Two incidents of rash driving claimed lives in Nawanshahr district on Monday, highlighting again the growing concern over road safety. Both incidents took place in separate blocks — Balachaur and Kathgarh — and have left families shattered.
In Balachaur, Paramjit Singh, a local dhaba owner, and his employee Balwinder Singh were walking back the their house after closing their eatery when tragedy struck. Balwinder, who was walking slightly ahead of Paramjit, was hit from behind by a speeding car. The impact left him critically injured and he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing a treatment.
Meanwhile, in Kathgarh, Joginder Singh and his wife were out on a scooter for some work. After covering some distance, Singh, feeling unwell, decided to rest near a roadside shop while his wife continued on the scooter. Moments later, a bus collided with the scooter. She fell on to the road and died on the spot.
In both cases, the drivers have been apprehended. The authorities have registered cases under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
