The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has cracked the harrowing snatching case that resulted in a cable company employee losing his arm. The police have arrested two persons and recovered the victim’s snatched mobile phone from their possession.

The incident occurred on August 28 when Sunny, a 24-year-old youth working with a cable network company, was returning home late at night. As he approached Maqsudan Chowk, three assailants on a scooter attacked him with a datar, a sharp-edged weapon used in the assault.

The attackers had slit his arm to snatch his mobile phone that he was holding tight. The extent of his injuries necessitated amputation, leaving the victim traumatised and the city in outrage.

Sunny had got the case reported, prompting police to file an FIR under Sections 309(6), 118(2), 3(5) of the BNS. Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma had formed teams to crack the case and utilising both scientific evidence and human intelligence to identify the perpetrators, the police managed to apprehend Varun and Binni, who were residing as tenants in New Deol Nagar.

“They were arrested shortly after the investigation began and the stolen phone was recovered”, police officials said, adding that the third suspect, identified as Ankit, is already in jail in another case but is expected to face additional scrutiny regarding this case.

Commissioner Sharma condemned the violence, stating, “This kind of brutality cannot be tolerated. Our police force is dedicated to ensuring justice and the safety of our residents.” He said while Ankit had a prior criminal history, no previous offences have been recorded for Varun and Binni.

“The investigation is ongoing and the police are committed to exploring all angles of the case. The Commissionerate Police is committed to wiping out crime from the city and no stone is left unturned for it”, he added.
