2 of interstate gang arrested with 12 kg ganja

The city police have busted an interstate drug racket with the arrest of two persons. The police also recovered 12 kg marijuana (ganja) from them.
Giving details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the police got a tip-off that an interstate gang involved in smuggling of marijuana was operative in the city. Based on inputs, the police laid a trap near the Sant Nagar railway crossing, Railway Colony.
He said on suspicion, the police stopped two persons, identified as Mohd Aslam and Mohd Danish, both natives of Uttar Pradesh, for checking. During frisking, the police recovered 12 kg of marijuana (ganja) from their possession.
CP Sharma said the police arrested the suspects. A case under Sections 20, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the duo at the New Baradari police station, Jalandhar.
“During investigation, it came to fore that the gang used to procure ganja from Odisha and supply it in the state,” he said.
He said the consignment was to be delivered in Jalandhar. Further investigations were on to ascertain to whom it was to be delivered. “The suspects have no crime record and further investigations were on in the case,” he said.
