2 women among 5 accused in remand after attack on cops
In connection with the recent attack on Punjab Police officers, who were dispatched to mediate a scuffle among migrant labourers, five individuals — including two women — have been arrested. The accused were produced in a court, which granted a two-day police remand for questioning.
The incident occurred when three police personnel arrived at the scene in the local Mohalla Sundar Nagar, responding to reports of a dispute between migrant workers. The officers were set upon by an angry mob, who physically assaulted them. The cops had to flee.
Purhiran’s outpost in-charge, arrived at the scene with additional officers. The in charge of Model Town police station, Inspector Pramod Kumar, said a case had been registered against around a dozen suspects. He said the arrested individuals — identified as Sachin, Deepak, Bhojan Mukhiya, Raveena and Babita — are all residents of Sundar Nagar and originally hail from Bihar. The Inspector said the five suspects were presented in the local magistrate’s court, where police were granted two days of remand for further investigation.
Inspector Kumar also noted that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack, with searches being conducted at various locations.
