In its drive against people endangering the lives of others by not wearing masks, the Jalandhar Commissionerate has so far issued 17,839 challans to offenders under ‘Mission Fateh’, thereby imposing a fine of Rs82.65 lakh on willful defaulters.

On Tuesday, 251 traffic challans were issued by the city police and 213 persons were penalised for not wearing masks. A fine worth Rs1,06,500 was issued to them.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the police have so far issued 17,839 challans for not wearing masks and collected a fine worth Rs82.65 lakh from violators. Besides, fine worth Rs73,000 has been imposed for 41 violations of home quarantine instructions, adding that 371 persons have been fined Rs75,100 for spitting in public place.

Bhullar said a total of 43,379 challans have been issued so far to traffic violators and 2,126 vehicles have been impounded.
