Shahkot: The Shahkot police have booked 24 persons on the charge of criminal trespass and rioting. Investigating Officer (IO) Lakhbir Singh said the accused had been identified as Harbans Singh of New Kartar Nagar, Shahkot; Paramjit Singh and Jagdev Singh of Mehraj Wala village and Sarabjit Singh of Kang Khurd village and their other unidentified accomplices. Sadhu Singh of Mianwal Araian village complained to the police that the accused barged into his fields with a tractor on July 10 and tried to encroach land despite a stay order issued by a court in this regard. The IO said a case under Sections 447, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC had been registered. OC
6 peddlers held, Narcotics seized
Hoshiarpur: The district police arrested six smugglers and recovered a huge quantity of narcotics from different places on Tuesday. Garhshankar police arrested a smuggler at a naka and recovered sedative pills from him. Mahilpur police arrested two brothers with 152 grams of intoxicating powder. Chabbewal police arrested one person with 62 grams of intoxicating powder. Garhdiwala police nabbed a resident of Bassi Bahadur with recovered 27 gm of intoxicating powder from him. Hajipur police arrested a resident of Bela Sariana, and recovered 6,000 ml liquor from him. OC
One booked on assault charge
Phagwara: The Mehat Pur police booked a villager on the charge of assaulting a school instructor. Investigating Officer (IO) Harwindar Singh said the accused had been identified as Sahil of Muhem village. Makhan Lal Bangar of the same village complained to the police that he was posted as a physical education instructor in Muhem Government High School and was training a school football team. He said the accused reached school and insisted on playing in the ground and had a heated discussion with him and attacked him with an iron “karra” and seriously injured him and threatened him. A case under Sections 323, 341and 506 had been registered. OC
Two arrested on snatching charge
Nakodar: The police have arrested two of a village in Kapurthala on the charges of snatching cash and smart phone from a migrant. Investigating Officer (IO) Chaman Lal said the accused had been identified as Aagiya Pal of Bhikhali village and Raja of Kahlwan village. Jaswindar Singh of Pandher village had complained to the police that on July 12, the accused stanched Rs 1,200 and a smart phone from Gobind Mahato of Bihar, who is presently living at Billi Chao village. He was working in fields and was threatened of dire consequences. The IO said a case under Sections 379-B, 506 and 34 of the IPC had been registered against the accused. OC
Absconding, PO held after 11 yrs
Shahkot: The Shahkot police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) absconding for the last 11 years. Investigating Officer Jaswindar Singh said the accused has been identified as Jatindar Singh of Kania village. The accused is wanted in a case of criminal trespass.
