In view of the diarrhoea outbreak in Bhim Nagar, a medical camp was organised for the third day on Wednesday. In this camp, a team of doctors examined the patients suffering from diarrhoea, besides distributing medicines and ORS.
Hoshiarpur Civil Surgeon Dr Pawan Kumar Shagotra said the health team took six stool samples on Wednesday, out of which three patients were found cholera positive. These patients were undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital and their condition was stable.
The Civil Surgeon said he was keeping a close eye on the situation as he visited the medical camp and obtained detailed information from the medical team. According to the medical team, a decrease has been witnessed in the number of patients in the camp today. The Civil Surgeon said due to the effective measures of the Health Department, the situation in Bhim Nagar was now improving.
The patients, who have recovered, have been discharged from the hospital. The RBSK team of the Health Department visited Bhim Nagar and nearby schools to make students and residents aware about the water-borne diseases. They detailed the residents on the prevention of diarrhoea and methods to prepare ORS solution. Teams of Multi-Purpose Health Workers, ANMs, ASHA workers and volunteers conducted a door-to-door survey today and distributed chlorine tablets and ORS packets to the residents.
The Civil Surgeon added that the civic authority had ensured alternative drinking water supply to the residents of the locality on the third day as well.
The Civil Surgeon said there was no need to panic and in case of diarrhoea, no one should take medicine on their own and should contact the nearest health centre at the earliest.
