In a significant breach of prison security, 33 gm of narcotic substance were recovered from an undertrial inmate during a visit at Kapurthala Modern Jail. The accused, identified as Jaswinder Singh, alias Jassa, a resident of Rajewal village in Shahkot, Jalandhar, was meeting his wife when the incident occurred.
According to jail officials, security personnel grew suspicious during the meeting and conducted a thorough search of the inmate. Upon inspection, a plastic packet containing the narcotic substance was found concealed inside Jaswinder’s shirt.
Following the recovery, Assistant Superintendent of Jail Dheeraj Kumar lodged an official complaint, prompting the registration of an FIR at Kotwali police station. The investigation is being led by ASI Hardev Singh, who confirmed the incident and stated that legal proceedings are underway.
Cops have initiated further inquiry into how the contraband entered the high-security facility and whether external assistance was involved.
