A 34-year-old Ukrainian woman stuck in Hoshiarpur since lockdown has been sent to Delhi after Deputy Commissioner’s intervention. Olha Kushpit, a computer games designer, had arrived in India on January 22.
Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait took keen interest in solving her problem and arranged a taxi for Delhi. The DC also made arrangements for her stay in Delhi till the Ukranian government arranges for evacuation of its citizens. On January 22, Olha had reached India for vipassana course in Karnal from January 22 to February 2. From there, she reached Chandigarh and on February 5, she went to Hoshiarpur for vipassana course. On March 4, Olha went to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh for a similar course, which was later cancelled and on March 20, she returned back to Hoshiarpur. Meanwhile, as the country announced lockdown, she got stuck at a hotel near Ghantaghar Chowk. Olha was aksed by the Ukrainian embassy to reach Delhi so that arrangement for her return Ukraine could be made.
Pay full wages to labourers, orders Police Commissioner
Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyat has instructed industry owners not to allow migrant labourers to leave their places due to the closure units due to the curfew. The respective owners should pay full wages to their labourers without any deduction. The DC said landlords would not demand rent for a month from labourers and students. The DC said legal action would be taken against a landlord if labourers and students were forced to vacate their places.
Top cop assures payment of Rs 24L dues to labourers
Jalandhar: Continuing its spree to ensure payments to labourers, payments worth Rs 24 lakh were ensured to around 2,000 workers in 40 factories by Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
Due to curfew, these labourers working in factories were facing trouble in maintaining their livelihood. In a goodwill gesture the Commissioner of Police took up the matter with the industrialists and asked them to pay the due wages of these labourers so that they could meet any urgency. Accordingly 2,000 labourers from 40 industries were distributed Rs 24 lakh.
The Commissioner of Police said these efforts would continue in the coming days too so that maximum relief could be provided to needy people. He also said 17,400 food packets and 3,398 packets of dry ration were distributed to needy people in the city. He said the Commissionerate Police was committed to serve the people with full passion and zeal.— TNS
