A nine-year-old girl was brutally raped by a 35-year-old man, who allegedly took her to the fields on the pretext of giving her a papaya.
As per the reports, the accused after raping the minor, had thrown her on a roadside near the fields, where some passersby found her in a pool of blood and alerted nearby residents
The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Mand Maur village in Kartarpur, where the nine-year-old girl who was working with her parents in the potato fields, reportedly went with the accused to the nearby bushes after he offered her a papaya to eat.
As per the reports, the accused after raping the minor, had thrown her on a roadside near the fields, where some passersby found her in a pool of blood and alerted nearby residents. When the girl’s parents and maternal grandfather got to know about the incident, they immediately took the girl to the nearby hospital in Kartapur, from where she was referred to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, due to her critical condition.
After the girl was brought to the Civil Hospital, the matter was reported to the Kartarpur police. A team of senior surgeons and doctors after examining her condition performed a major surgery which lasted up to four to five hours.
Talking to the Tribune, Gumeet Sehgal, senior gynecologist at the Civil Hospital, who was part of the team of doctors who performed surgery, said that the girl was in miserable condition when she was brought to the hospital. “Veins in her privates had burst due to forceful intercourse, she was bleeding profusely and there were bruises all over. We then immediately performed the surgery to clean her wounds and stabilise her”, she said.
She further added that the girl is now stable and out of danger, but she will be monitored for about a week to 10 days.
Meanwhile, when contacted Sahil Chaudhary, SHO Kartarpur, he said the accused has been identified as Rajesh, a 35-year-old man, who hails from Jharkhand and was working in Mand Maur as labourer. He said that the accused fled the scene after throwing the girl on the roadside.
“We are trying to trace his whereabouts and conducting raids at various locations. His last location was traced near Jalandhar, but we couldn’t find him,” said Chaudhary, adding that an FIR under Section 376B of the IPC and under relevant sections of the POCSO Act has been registered against him.
