A joint raid was conducted by the excise team and police as part of the campaign being run against illicit liquor in view of the upcoming panchayat elections. The teams raided the Mand area of Miani (Tanda) and seized about 3,500 kg lahan hidden in seven tarpaulins, which was destroyed on the spot.

In another raid, 20 litre of illicit liquor was seized from the house of Roop Lal in Chandigarh Colony, Tanda. The accused has been handed over to the police and an FIR has been registered against him.

Besides, search operations were also conducted in Miani and Abdullahpur villages, but no recovery was made from here. The campaign was run under the supervision of ETO Preet Bhupinder Singh (Hoshiarpur-2), in which Excise Inspectors Amit Vyas, Naresh Sahota, Lovepreet Singh, Ajay Kumar and Kulwant Singh along with the police team were there.

Meanwhile, a former sarpanch of Mirpur village, Harjinder Booti, was attacked by around 15 miscreants at his shop in Mirpur village.

The sarpanch and his daughter who were at the shop suffered injuries and were admitted to the Phagwara Civil Hospital.
