38-yr-old biker dies in mishap

Hoshiarpur: A 38-year-old man, identified as Lakhveer Singh, was killed in a road accident that took place on the Chandigarh road near Harian Belan village here on January 6. A complaint in this regard was lodged on Saturday afternoon by Bimmi, sister of the victim, a resident of Kaundla village under the Chabewal police station. She told the police that his brother Lakhveer Singh, riding a motorcycle, was going to Kaundla village and when he reached near the Hrian Belan gurdwara turn, the driver of a private company, who was driving the company bus rashly, hit her brother’s motorcycle while overtaking a truck. As a result, he fell off the motorcycle. With the help of passers-by, she took her to a private hospital where doctors referred him to the PGI, Chandigarh, but he died on the way. The police have booked the unidentified driver. OC

Drunk man (40) charred to death

Jalandhar: A 40-year-old man, who was in an inebriated state, was reportedly charred to death after falling into a bonfire at a crematorium near Lambda on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Satnam Singh, a resident of Lallian Kalan village, Lambda. Ranjit Singh, in-charge, police station, said they received an information that a partially-brunt body of youth was found by some people in the crematorium. When the police reached the spot, they saw the victim’s body, which had nearly 70% burn injuries. The police registered a case under Section 174 and handed over the body to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem. TNS

City shuttlers shine in tourney

Jalandhar: Two city-based girls, Liza Taank and Manya Ralhan, brought laurels to the district by winning bronze medal in girls doubles U-17 category at All-India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament organised by the Badminton Association of India at Panchkula from January 2 to 9. Both girls are students of Class X of Apeejay School here. Ritin Khanna, member secretary, District Badminton Association, Jalandhar, said inspite of Covid and board exams, both players have been regularly practicing under their coaches. TNS

1 arrested with sedative capsules

Hoshiarpur: Model Town police have arrested a person, accused of drug peddling, with 152 sedative capsules on Saturday afternoon. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Kumar, alias Sonu, of Phuglana village. He has been booked under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. OC

Man nabbed with stolen scooter

Hoshiarpur: Tanda police have arrested a person with a stolen scooter having a fake registration number. The accused was arrested from near slums in Adda Saraan on the basis of a secret tip-off. He was identified as Bhagwandass of Bilaspur in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. He was booked under Sections 379, 411 and 482 of the IPC. OC
