As much as 380 quintal of wheat seed will be provided free of cost to farmers in the flood-affected areas of Nawanshahr district, while the remaining farmers will receive 1,421 quintal of certified wheat seed at 50 per cent subsidy, Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh said today.
He said the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is implementing the scheme to ensure that all farmers get quality wheat seed at affordable prices. Certified wheat seed will be provided to farmers at a subsidised rate of Rs 2,000 per quintal, with the subsidy amount deducting at the time of purchase.
Each farmer can avail of the subsidised seed for a maximum area of one hectare, he added, noting that the supply will continue until the set target is achieved.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Chief Agriculture Officer, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, said interested farmers can register online at http://agrimachinerypb.com to obtain seeds from their respective Block Agriculture Offices.
He also advised farmers to contact their local agriculture officers for any further information regarding the registration process or seed availability.
