The Nurmahal police have booked four miscreants on the charge of snatching cash and jewellery from an NRI.
Station House Officer (SHO) Varinder Pal Singh Uppal said that the accused have been identified as Amrit Pal Singh alias Bhalla, a resident of Poadharra village under Bilga police station, Harish and their two unidentified accomplices. Rampreet Singh, a resident of Sher Pur village living in Canada, complained to the police that he came to India for two weeks and met his old friend Amrit Pal Singh, a resident of Poadharra at Pasla village on February 15 and promised to meet him in the evening.
The NRI said in his complaint that the accused Amrit Pal told him to meet his other old friends and started driving toward Bansian village. He turned the vehicle on a passage near the canal and asked him to come out. Manpreet Singh said there were three persons and he knew only Harish when they reached the spot.
Harish and another accused held him by the arm and the third accused pointed a sharp weapon at him. Amritpal threatened to kill him and snatched the gold ornaments he was wearing, an iPhone and smartphone and took away his bag from the vehicle which contained Rs 50,000, Canadian $1700 and an iPad and fled on a motorcycle. The NRI said he tried to contact Amritpal but he could not be reached. The SHO said a case under Sections 420, 120-B and 379-B (II) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and their two unidentified accomplices. ASI Amarik Lal is conducting further investigations.
