4-day district badminton championship kicks off

The four-day Jalandhar District Badminton Championship 2025 officially began on Thursday at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium.

With 510 entries from 400 players, the championship promises to deliver high-voltage action across 39 events, ranging from Under-11 categories to the veterans. A total of 471 thrilling matches are set to take place, with a prize pool of Rs 5 lakh up for grabs.

The Jalandhar District Badminton Association (DBA) has ensured all necessary arrangements, including special food and beverage services for all participants. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Balbir Raj, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, felicitated the Indian Senior Badminton team members who will represent India at the World Senior Badminton Championship in Thailand.

DBA Secretary Ritin Khanna announced that the finals would take place on August 31, followed by a prize distribution ceremony. The ceremony will be presided over by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal (IAS), and Pradeep Sachdev, Head of Indian Oil Jalandhar Division.

In a special tribute, the association has decided to award the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Ustad Chaman Lal Ratti, in recognition of his four decades of dedicated service to the DBA as both a coach and an administrator.

The opening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Palwinder Juneja (Treasurer, DBA), Rakesh Khanna, Dhiraj Sharma, Naresh Budhia, Gagan Ratti, Vilas Hans, and coach Varun Kumar.
