The police have arrested a youth and recovered an illegal .32 bore pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession last night.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said that the arrested person was identified as Kulbhushan Soni, a resident of Sarafan Bazar, Phagwara. The accused was wanted in a criminal case registered under the Arms Act on August 4. SP Bhatti said that DSP, Phagwara, Jaspreet Singh was investigating the matter.

In another case, the police arrested a drug peddler and recovered five grams of heroin from his possession last night. SP Bhatti said the accused, identified as Gurwinder Singh, a resident of village Virk near Phagwara was nabbed at a check-point near the local Urban Estate. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the arrested accused, said Bhatti.

The SP said that in a third case, the police arrested two youths today under Section 304 of BNS on the charges of snatching Rs 11,000 in cash from a Phagwara resident Upinder Dass near Kirti Nagar on the night of September 7.

The arrested accused were identified as Hani Kumar and Sunil, both residents of village Saloh near Nawanshahr.

Travel agents booked

Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said that in a fourth case, the police have booked three travel agents under Section 420 and 120B of IPC on the charges of duping people of lakhs on the pretext of sending them abroad.

The accused were identified as Aniket Anand, Robin and Jagbir Singh, all residents of Jamalpur near Ludhiana. SP Bhatti said that the police got secret information that the accused were trying to go abroad after duping people of huge amounts.
